Large pores have often been thought of as just a part of your genetic makeup. If you have them, you are doomed to have them and keep them forever.
The good news is, we now know that isn’t the case. Additionally, we know that essential oils can help reduce the appearance of large pores.
Essential Oils for large pores work on a number of different levels and their effectiveness is dependent on the root cause for your large pores.
If you aren’t sure of your root cause, you can certainly try each of the essential oils mentioned below and see which one is the perfect match for you.
Once you know what oil is working best for you, you will also have an idea of what the root cause of your large pores may be. Keep in mind that essential oils alone aren’t likely to be the only tool you will need for long term success.
Several essential oils have properties that make them effective tools to combat large pores. These properties are part of the “medicine” that comes from these plants to create essential oils. Essential oils are powerful and highly concentrated plant essences that are supercharged versions of the plant’s healing properties.
My Favorite List of Essential Oils for Large Pores
Remember, while most of the oils listed here will assist in shrinking the appearance of large pores temporarily, you will need long term use and likely additional interventions for a permanent solution:
1 . Yarrow essential oil
It is often considered the “fountain of youth” for skin. It can help to shrink the appearance of pores and also those pesky fine lines and wrinkles. It is best if your large pores are caused by general aging.
2. Lavender essential oil
It is beautiful for the skin and to reduce the appearance of large pores.
Lavender EO is very soothing topically to inflammation. It would be a good place to start if your pore size is related to inflammation. I recommend this for other skin issues/infections like boils.
3. Lemon essential oil
It helps to promote lymphatic drainage which can be a root cause for having large pores on the face. This may be a good place to start if your pore size is related to your lymphatic drainage.
4. Peppermint essential oil
It acts as an astringent. It is going to shrink pores temporarily and isn’t specifically related to a root cause.
My Recommendations for Usage
As we touched on at the top of this information, essential oils are concentrated plant oils extracted from several different species of plants.
They make great remedies because they are so powerful due to their concentration.
Their strength and potency are important to their healing properties, but it also makes it important for you to know a few points before beginning to use essential oils on your skin, particularly your face.
First of all, since these plant essences are so potent, you must use them properly and particularly dilute them properly.
You also must keep them away from tender areas such as the lips, eyes, and inside the nose.
Next, know that essential oils and water don’t mix. Essential oils are hydrophobic, which simply means they don’t mix well with water.
Finally, know that the most effective way to use essential oils for large pores is to use any of the oils listed topically: Yarrow, Lemon, Peppermint, or Lavender.
You will receive some aromatic benefits using them topically, but don’t expect to have the most effective treatment by inhaling essential oils aromatically.
Most Effective Recipes and Pairing Suggestions
As mentioned, for optimal results we are going to use the topical method to apply essential oils. I will give you some specific ways to use essential oils for large pores below.
But first I want to give you a couple of combinations to help you maximize the properties that will assist you and to minimize their appearance and ultimately heal.
To get started, you will want to select your oils. When using essential oils for the face it’s best to select one from the list above.
You can use the oils alone, or even combine them to create a custom blend specifically for you. Make your selection by checking which root causes seem likely for your situation.
Here are a few suggested pairings for the best results:
1. Yarrow and Lavender
These two pack a punch for skin regeneration, particularly for aging or sun-damaged skin.
2. Lemon and Peppermint
This pairing will get the lymph flowing again for long-term help and instantly minimize pores.
3. Peppermint and Lavender
This combination will ensure instant pore minimization and reduction of inflammation long term. I love these essential oils for skin tags as well!
It is also important to note, using lemon essential oil on the face can cause sun sensitivity. So use the appropriate sun precautions.
How to Apply Essential Oils for Large Pores
Safety first! Make sure you dilute your essential oil and have a nice plant-based oil nearby in case your skin starts to get warm or irritated.
Absolutely do not apply these oils “neat” or without diluting them to your skin.
Single Oil Topical Application
It can’t be said enough, safety first! You must have plant-based oil nearby in case of skin irritation. This goes for anytime you’re working these on skin (from skin chafing treatment to the rehydration of a dry nose with essential oils).
Sometimes keeping it simple means that you will create a sustainable habit.
So to use a single oil in a topical application, you can keep it simple and effective. Here’s how:
- Add 1 tsp of carrier oil to your hand. Grapeseed oil is recommended for the face.
- Add 1 drop of each oil you chose for your single oil. Drop this into the grapeseed oil in your hand.
- Rub your hands together and apply this all over your face, neck, and décolletage.
- This is best done after face washing and before makeup in the morning and evening. It also replaces your moisturizer.
- Any extra oil can be rubbed into the skin on other parts of the body.
Roll-On Blend
Another way to keep things simple so you create a sustainable habit is by creating a roll-on. This can be done with a single or a combination of oils into a single roll-on bottle.
You can find glass roll-on bottles from many online vendors.
- Select one or as many oils as you would like for your blend.
- Add a total of 8-10 drops of oil to your roll-on bottle. This can be any combination of the oils listed above or a single oil.
- Fill the roll-on bottle the remainder of the way with grapeseed oil as a carrier.
- Replace the rollerball, swirl it around to mix.
- You can now use the roll-on to apply your oil to the affected areas where larger pores are causing you an issue.
Using the topical method for essential oil application for skin issues, including large pores is a well-respected and simple way to minimize their appearance.
Often large pores can be related to hormone imbalances and by using essential oils, you are avoiding more hormone-disrupting chemicals in your routine.
Remember to dilute your essential oils and use caution around the lips, eyes, and interior of the nose to maximize the success of these methods.
