Skin tags can be irritating, unsightly, and even a little embarrassing. Luckily there is a nontoxic and straightforward solution that can save you time and money. Keep reading for an easy home remedy for getting rid of skin tags.
Skin tags are small and soft projections of skin that generally occur near the eyelids, underarms, on the neck, chest, under the breasts, or in the groin.
Skin tags are caused by friction in most cases. Unlike chafing symptoms, these raised skin growths happen over a very long period of time.
They can occasionally get irritated but are usually not harmful.
Essential oils can’t guarantee you won’t get skin tags, but they are a safe and effective way to get rid of skin tags on any area of your body. And have some properties which may help to prevent future skin tags.
You can use essential oils alone to remove them or use them in combination with another removal method.
Several essential oils have antimicrobial and hemostatic properties that make them an effective tool for skin tag removal. Essential oils get these properties from plants.
The plants are processed using distillation or a cold-press process. The resulting oil is a potent and highly concentrated plant medicine that is a supercharged version of the originating plant’s healing properties.
The Best Essential Oils for Skin Tags
The properties we are looking for in the essential oils selected are antimicrobial, hemostatic, and strong enough to remove the skin tags:
1. Tea Tree (Melaleuca) essential oil
This essential oil works on multiple levels. It cleanses the skin’s surface and also helps to dehydrate the skin tag making it fall off much faster.
The principal is actually very similar to when you treat acne; the goal being to dry out the problem spot.
2. Oregano oil
It is a hot oil and is very spicy but is effective in removing skin tags. Mostly through irritation.
3. Rosemary
Rosemary essential oils contains active compounds that help to reduce skin inflammation, redness and can help lighten areas of the skin.
This is often used for alopecia but the mechanism is based on enhancing blood flow to the skin.
4. Basil essential oil
It helps improve skin tone. It can relieve itching and speed up the healing process of the skin.
5. Frankincense essential oil
This stuff is so lovely for the skin. It can help get rid of the skin protrusions and, with regular use, can help prevent future skin tags from forming.
My Favorite Essential Oils and Pairings
Essential oils are highly concentrated plant elements extracted from different species of plants. They make really good home remedies because they are so effective, safe, and easy to access.
Their strength and potency are essential to their healing properties, but it also makes it essential for you to know a few points before beginning, especially given the power of the oils we are working with today.
First, since these essential oils are so potent, you must use them properly and particularly dilute them properly. This is even more important when working on the sensitive areas of the body where skin tags proliferate.
Second, know that essential oils and water don’t mix. Essential oils are hydrophobic, which is a fancy way of saying that they don’t mix well with water, and water can sometimes enhance their discomfort.
If you get the essential oil in an area and you begin to feel an uncomfortable burning sensation, water will make this sensation worse. The antidote for an oil burning your skin is a carrier oil such as coconut oil, grapeseed oil, or even olive oil.
If your skin tag is partially torn from the skin, or you have any bleeding, take special care or let the open wound heal for a few days first.
Finally, know that the only effective way to use essential oils for skin tags is to use any of the oils listed: tea tree, oregano, frankincense, rosemary, basil, is to use them topically.
Although you always get a little synergistic aromatic benefit, in this case, topical treatment is the only applicable method.
Applying Essential Oils to Remove Skin Tags
As mentioned, the only method to get rid of skin tags is the topical method of applying essential oils. I will give you the steps to use essential oils to get rid of skin tags below.
But first, I want to provide you with a couple of combinations to help you maximize the properties that will assist you the fastest.
To get started, you will want to select your oils. When using essential oils for skin tags, it’s best to choose one from the list above. Other oils will work, but these are the best at getting the job done.
You can also use lavender, which is not listed, to pair with any of the suggested essential oils to help it work even better and promote healing.
Here are a few suggested pairings for maximum results:
- Rosemary and Frankincense. These two pack a powerful punch to remove skin tags, prevent post-removal infection and inflammation, and prevent future skin tags from forming.
- Basil and Rosemary. Work synergistically to improve skin tone and swiftly rid your affected area of skin tags.
It cannot be stressed enough because skin tags can occur in sensitive areas; safety first! You must be sure you dilute your essential oil and have a soothing plant-based oil nearby if your skin starts to get warm or irritated.
Skin tags near the eyes, you must be particularly careful not to get essential oils in the eyes. As a reminder, if you do get essential oils in a sensitive area, you must flush with a carrier oil, not water, including the eyes.
You must dilute the essential oils before applying them to skin tags. Using a glass bowl to dilute essential oils in a carrier oil is best before applying them.
DIY Topical Application
Remember, safety first! Make sure you have a plant-based oil nearby in case of skin irritation.
Essential oils are a wonderful option for the removal of skin tags. It is best to do this before bed, and you will need to repeat it until the skin tag is gone. Here’s how to use them:
- Add one tablespoon of carrier oil to a glass bowl.
- Add 2-4 drops of each oil you choose, for a maximum of 4-6 drops to the oil, and stir it around a bit. It can help to use a toothpick for this.
- Use a Q-tip to apply the oil to the skin tag.
- Cover the skin tag with a Band-Aid or gauze overnight.
- Repeat nightly.
Support after Medical Skin Tag Removal
Alternatively, you may have had your skin tags removed by your doctor. You can still use essential oils to support the healing process and reduce future skin tags.
Here’s how:
- Add one tablespoon of grapeseed carrier oil to a glass bowl.
- Add ten drops of frankincense to the carrier oil, and stir it around a bit. It can help to use a toothpick for this.
- Use your fingers (or you can use a roll-on bottle) to apply the mixture to the area you get skin tags.
- Repeat nightly.
Skin tags can be annoying and unsightly. Using essential oils to dehydrate and remove them is a safe and effective way to be rid of these skin protrusions.
You can also use them to support rapid healing and prevention after medical skin tag removal.
Using essential oils allows you to take advantage of the healing properties of the plants and their plant essences.
Remember, just like using these treatments for delicate dry nose surfaces, skin tags often occur in very sensitive areas, so it is critical to dilute your essential oils to avoid injury.
