Guy Fieri Bratwurst Recipe

Bratwursts should be juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked just right—Guy's recipe checks every box!
I always let my brats soak in the beer bath for at least 20 minutes before finishing them on the grill.
High heat at the end gets that crispy, golden-brown skin that makes all the difference in texture.
Instead of boiling, keeping the heat at a low simmer prevents the bratwursts from splitting and losing their juices.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Bratwurst Sausages
  • 1/2 cup Whole-Grain Mustard
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted Butter
  • 1/2 tsp Kosher Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
  • 2 cups Onions sliced
  • 1 bottle Beer 12 oz.

Instructions

  • Start by melting the unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced onions and cook until they're soft and translucent, about 10 minutes.
  • Pour in the beer, seasoning with kosher salt and black pepper.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  • Add the bratwurst sausages to the skillet, ensuring they are submerged in the liquid.
  • Cover and let them cook for 20 to 25 minutes over medium-low heat.
  • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  • Once the bratwursts have finished braising in the beer, transfer them to the grill.
  • Grill the sausages for about 5 to 7 minutes, turning occasionally until they're browned and cooked through.
  • Serve with mustard on the side.
