Masterbuilt Electric Smoker #1 Review

Masterbuilt is known for producing some of the cheaper smokers on the market, but fortunately they don’t cut any corners in order to do that. They might not look fancy, but you can rest easy knowing that you are going to be in good hands and able to smoke all of your meets without worrying about anything other than having to wait to actually eat the delicious meats your cooking up.

Before you look at any other model, you have to understand what makes this model so important and so great for almost all of your home smoking needs. Granted, if you are going to be smoking for a restaurant you’ll have to have a larger model, but for most people, the thought of having an incredibly large and bulky unit is something that they want to avoid at all costs. When you have the choice between a ton model and a 50lb one, it is easy to see which is the best option for a home smoker.

That is why Masterbuilt worked so hard to create a model that not only weighs very little, but is incredibly compact for the kind of space that it provides. You will be able to cook using 30 inches of space that can effectively smoke all of the meats that you need without having to find a special place for it and set it somewhere on its own where you’ll have to hope you never need the space for anything else.

Other than space, however, there are plenty of other things that you need to think about, although they aren’t all good. For the most part, though, it is all positive.

What We Like

There is an almost endless supply of positive things about this smoker, but in particular, the following should be some of the most important things you consider as part of your decision making process:

Pushbutton Operation

One of the goals of Masterbuilt was to make this as easy to use as a grill, compared to some of the more complicated models that other companies produce. With the pushbutton digital control panel, you can control everything from  a single place and get to smoking without worrying. You can change the temperature from 100 to 275 degrees and even use the control panel to set the timer with automatic shutoff, ensuring that you never have to worry about overcooked and dry meats. If you want easy, turnkey operation, this is the best option for you, but it performs well enough to be at home in any professional cook’s home as well.

Efficient Smoking

Having a smoker that works efficiently is one of the most important things you have to consider when you are going to start doing something like this at home. There are a lot of problems that you can run into with other models, so having one that can actually hold heat in is incredibly important.

The insulation in this unit is one of the things that stands out the most. Even with a low wattage rating, the fact that it can hold heat very effectively means that you don’t actually need as much power as many of the other competing smokers. It still can’t reach the high temperature stat a gas or charcoal smoker can, but the temperatures that it is capable of handling it handles very well and without wasting any power on it.

Easy Cleanup

This is a HUGE factor for some people. You don’t want to have a great smoker that is incredibly hard to clean when you’re done. That is why Masterbuilt has created this one with cleanup in mind and, compared to charcoal, it is one of the easiest parts of cooking. With two drip pans and just four racks, there isn’t much to clean and they are all easily removed, making it one of the cleanest pieces of cooking equipment you will likely own.

Space Saving

This is one of the smallest and most efficient electric smokers on the market. Measuring 33” X 19.5” X 18.5” it is small enough to put somewhere out of the way and not have to worry about the fact that is going to take up too much space and become a hassle. Inside, it features two cubic feet of space, which is more than enough for most of your needs. All of that is fitted with four different smoking racks that make it even easier to keep everything at the right temperature and smoking properly in order to have some of the tastiest meals of your cooking career. Don’t overlook something like this when you are looking at cooking equipment, you’d be surprised how large of a role it can play once you start building up a collection of devices.

The Limitations

To be completely honest, there is only one thing that can even pose a problem for you as a smoker. It isn’t a big deal, but think about it just in case:

Inconvenient Grease Drain

The one small complaint that some people have had about this particular electronic smoker is that it suffers from having to tilt it in order to get the grease to drain out of the unit. That shouldn’t really seem like a huge deal, but some are unwilling to deal with even the slightest inconvenience in their smoker. If this is a problem for you, I encourage you to think about it again and consider it.

The Verdict

You should know that you are going to get top of the line when you buy a Masterbuilt smoker, but this electric smoker is especially powerful and efficient for almost all uses that you’ll need. The interior space has plenty of room and plenty of insulation, so it will always perform at its best, so it is easy to see why this is one of the top in the market. Take a look at it if you are in the market and you won’t make the mistake of choosing anything other than the very best options out there.
